Yorgenis Danger García 9-11 DECEMBER 2022

Just as promised Yorgenis “Yoyo” Danger García https://www.facebook.com/yorgenis.d.garcia is coming back in December!

FRIDAY – warming up with some fun and a bit challenging salsa con afro to get in the mood for some serious Afro-Cuban dancing!

SATURDAY – YORUBA We keep working with the same orishas as last time – Eleggua, Oggun and Oya – but with different toques (rhythms) and maybe adding a bit of singing – important!

ELEGGUA – He owns all roads, crossroads and doors and he can open or shut them as he pleases. Without his help nothing is possible. He is the messenger between heaven and earth, and is said to be present everywhere and at all times, watching us humans and all our actions. He is generally represented as a child, mischievous and playful. His colours are black and red, and in some cases black and white. His attribute is a forkshaped stick called garabato which he uses to clear the way.

OGGUN – one of the “guerreros” (warriors) together with Eleggua, Ochosi and Osun. He is master of all metals and minerals, in particular iron, and inventor of tools, weapons and technology. He lives in the wilderness and forested areas of the world, and is often portrayed as a solitary blacksmith or ironmonger or a fierceful warrior. His colours are green and black. He has a violent and brusque nature, but he also has a more peaceful side. Oggún is the patron of all those who work with metal, mechanics, engineers, policemen, soldiers, surgeons.

OYA – a fierce and powerful female warrior, although she can be feminine and seductive when she so wishes. She keeps the gates of the cemetery and controls the dead. She is mistress of the storms, whirlwinds and lightnings (centellas). She dances wielding her black iruke and when she goes to war her machete.

SHANGO – A king and a leader, proud and dominant. He represents male beauty, virility and masculinity. He is the master of fire, thunder and lightning and war, but also music, drumming and dancing. His colours are red and white and his attribute a two-edged axe.

YEMAYA – mistress of the sea, serious and powerful. Her dance represents the movements of the ocean, from calm and tranquil to huge waves hitting against the rocks. She is also the great mother figure, mother to all living things and her character is nurturing and protective. Her colours are different shades of blue with white and silver.

OSHUN – Mistress of all rivers and sweet waters. Her colours are yellow and gold. Her nature is seductive and sensual and she represents love, joy and sexuality. Her main attribute is a fan and she loves honey, which she uses to attract and seduce, together with her captivating laughter. But don’t be mistaken, she is a powerful orisha and can be vindictive when crossed!

ORISHAS THIS WEEKEND:

ELEGGUA – He owns all roads, crossroads and doors and he can open or shut them as he pleases. Without his help nothing is possible. He is the messenger between heaven and earth, and is said to be present everywhere and at all times, watching us humans and all our actions. But don’t be mistaken, she is a powerful orisha and can be vindictive when crossed!

OBBATALA – The greatest and the most respected of the orishas. He is the father of many of the other orishas and he was the one who created the human beings and therefore he is the owner of all heads. He represents peace, purity and harmony, although there is one ”camino”, shape, of him who is a warrior when he needs to make justice. His colour is white and his attribute a white iruke. Sometimes he represents an old man and sometimes a young prince, and he can also be male or female.

SHANGO – A king and a leader, proud and dominant. He represents male beauty, virility and masculinity. He is the master of fire, thunder and lightning and war, but also music, drumming and dancing. His colours are red and white and his attribute a two-edged axe.

On Friday we start with salsa con afro, to get in the right mood, have fun and enjoy the opportunity to be able to dance together again! (Respecting the recommendations, of course!)

Saturday we start with an hour’s tecnique and musicality, to warm up those afro muscles again! The rest of the day we dedicate to the orishas – summing up what we did last time with Oggun, repeating and continuing with Oshun and then moving on to Shango, king of drums and dancing!

Sunday we go on with Oshun, she is the orisha with most changes in music, toques and songs, so there is a lot to learn! After that soft and sweet beginning we throw in some energetic palo – because we love palo, right? We finish the day with Shango.

Leydis Teodoro Delis 18-19 January 2020

Leydis Teodoro Delis

18-19 January 2020

We have the great privilege and pleasure to start 2020 by welcoming the lovely and wonderfully talented Leydis Teodoro Delis to Stockholm for the first time!  Together with her we will pick up where we left off  with Yoyo last time and keep working with Oggun and Oshun.

Just as last time the first hour both days will be basic, with focus on technique and understanding of rhythm and coordination.  A great opportunity for beginners to get a solid foundation and pick up the pace, and also very useful for those who are more advanced – it is always good to go back to the basics and you always have to keep working that torso, remember?

OGGUN – one of the “guerreros” (warriors) together with Eleggua, Ochosi and Osun. He is master of all metals and minerals, in particular iron, and inventor of tools, weapons and technology. He lives in the wilderness and forested areas of the world, and is often portrayed as a solitary blacksmith or ironmonger or a fierceful warrior. His colours are green and black. After three fantastic workshop weekends concentrating on Eleggua, Yemayá and Oyá we go on to explore Oggun and Oshun together with maestro Yorgenis Danger García who keeps blessing us with his visits to Stockholm!  It is truly a great privilege and joy to have him here on a regular basis!

This time beginners and newcomers will have a great opportunity to join in as the first hour both days will be strictly basic with great focus on technique and understanding of rhythm and movement.  It is also a great way to start the day in a nice, easy way for those who are more advanced – going back to the roots and the basics is never wrong, right?

OGGUN – one of the “guerreros” (warriors) together with Eleggua, Ochosi and Osun. He is master of all metals and minerals, in particular iron, and inventor of tools, weapons and technology. He lives in the wilderness and forested areas of the world, and is often portrayed as a solitary blacksmith or ironmonger or a fierceful warrior. His colours are green and black.
