Yorgenis “Yoyo” Danger García

Our journey with maestro Yorgenis Danger García continues! Together we will go on studying the mayor orishas Eleggua, Yemayá and Oyá. We keep working methodically with our technique and our understanding of rhythm and movement. Saturday we do it to recorded music but on Sunday we spice things up with LIVE MUSIC from Euro Rumba Ashé and guest musicians!

“Yoyo”, with his extensive knowledge, extraordinary pedagogical skills and great willingness to share his culture, is one of the most sought-after teachers for festivals and workshops, so it is a great privilege and pleasure to welcome him back to Stockholm on a regular basis!

SATURDAY we start (as one should!) with Elegguá who owns all roads, crossroads and doors. Without his help nothing is possible. He is the messenger between heaven and earth, and is said to be present everywhere and at all times, watching us humans and all our actions. He is generally represented as a child, mischievous and playful. His colours are black and red, and in some cases black and white.

We go on with Oyá, a fierce and powerful female warrior. She keeps the gates of the cemetery and controls the dead. She is mistress of the storms and lightning (centellas) and dances wielding her black iruke and when she goes to war her machete.

Next up is Yemayá, mistress of the sea, serious and powerful. Her dance represents the movements of the ocean, from calm and tranquil to huge waves hitting against the rocks. She is also the great mother figure, mother to all living things and her character is nurturing and protective. Her colours are different shades of blue with white and silver.

We finish the day concentrating on chachalukafun, with the ambition to help everybody master this tricky rhythm!

SUNDAY we keep working with the same three orishas,  but turning up the VOLUME and TEMPERATURE with LIVE MUSIC! The drums will give you that extra push and energy and joy!

We urge you to make the most of this fabulous opportunity and strongly recommend you to take all classes or as many as you can, as we work concentrating on specific orishas, building from the base, widening and heightening our knowledge!
